I do suggest reading the book and if you are interested there is the CAFE that goes along with it. Wow! http://www.thedailycafe.com/ Once again I suggest you read the book so you get the full advantage of their ideas.
Although I do not always get all 5 of their stations done a day (usually we do 3) it is still a wonderful way to teach reading - not just reading, but the love of reading. I have students who BEG to read independently every day. Actually, it is most of my class. The trick is to allow the children to pick a book that interests them and is not frustrational or too easy.
I am listing a website that helped me understand how this works and different ideas for the centers. I hope it helps you as well. Although this is a second grade teacher it can be "beefed" up for the upper grades and it is great if you need differentiation in your centers.

Great Site!
Another great site (and you can join her fb page) is: http://www.cooperativelearning365.com/ I love cooperative learning groups and it is a skill that children need.
